Who Stole Health Care Reform?

Date: 28 Feb 2010 Comments:0

I watched, along with untold thousands of others, a good portion of the recent health care forum which pitted President Obama against the Republicans. Nothing happened during that very boring meeting to change my mind about either side and how the great idea of health care reform got so screwed-up. Let’s analyze how thing got where they are now.

Let’s talk about the real problems in turn.
First, there are the Democrats (their symbol, the donkey, is very appropriate). This group swept to power on the wave of Obama’s rallying cry of change. Change in health care, Change in the economy, Change in the way Washington does business, Change, Change, Change, Bla, Bla, Bla. The Dems were in complete control of Washington; they could do whatever they wanted. Meaningful health care reform now seemed a reality. So what happened?

The Democrats proved what I have suspected of all elected officials-they care more about money than they do the folks who elected them. Why, when the vast majority of Americans wanted health reform, including a public option, would they drag their feet until all of America turned against reform and give Republicans what they wanted all along? I’ll tell you why. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!!! Money from the Insurance Industry, the very group who has caused so much devastation to the bank accounts of millions of hard-working Americans. There is no other reason for it. Oh, they come up with a thousand other reasons, but it all boils down to money. They are afraid they will lose their seats in congress if they don’t get money from the lobbyists. And after all, if they lose their seat, they can’t help their constituents. Like anyone believes they care.

The Republicans are what they always have been—mean-spirited, uncaring obstructionists who would go to any lengths, tell any lie and spread any rumor to accomplish their goals. It doesn’t take much research to debunk almost all the supposed “facts” coming from the Republican side of the isle. For example, we don’t have the best health care in the world, we are ranked 37th overall. Other pearls of fact spewed by the Elephants were a government take-over of health care. They stated the government would get involved in Medicare, for example. Who runs Medicare now? The government, that’s who. Another pearl- a government beauracrat will decide what coverage you can have. The insurance companies do that now with one of their people. I could go on and on about the lies and half-truths from the Republicans but I don’t have the time.

And lastly, the Democrats are cowards. Yes, cowards. They are afraid of a fight with the Pachyderms. If not, then why didn’t they just pass health care reform when they had 60 votes in the Senate? I thought that was the reason all Democrats were happy to have a majority in both houses. They really didn’t need the Republicans. The Donkeys wanted to be the good guys and be all bi-partisan. How’d that work out for them? You think the Republicans would be so warm and fuzzy? Really? You do? Then I have some swampland down in Arizona I want to sell you.

And then there is the President, himself. He could have written his own bill, presented it to the American public and most likely sold his plan in nothing flat. But he also got all warm and fuzzy and let the bad guys get involved. Big mistake!!! Problem is, it might be to late. The Red guys can sell their bill of goods to America, but apparently the Blue guys can’t

As I said earlier, it all comes down to money. And that will never be corrected unless we establish term limits. Limits seem to work well in the states that have them, and as I recall, the Repubs back in the 90’s wanted term limits until they took over the majority. Amazing how that works, isn’t it?

Till next time, be careful, it’s a jungle out there.

Bobby

The Democrats Just Don’t Have A Clue

Date: 26 Jan 2010 Comments:0

The sweeping victories by the Democratic Party in last November’s election was a window into the midset of the American voter and gave the Dems a clear mandate for change. At least that’s what I thought. Apparently the Donkeys got sidetracked somewhere along the way.

The realatively shocking victory of a Republican in a long-time Democratic state last Tuesday should have signaled the leaders of the Democratic Party just how disgusted with them the public who elected them in the first place has become. But the Donks just don’t really have a clue. They think now they should tread even softer and not even carry a small stick. I got to tell you, as much as I am going to gag when it happens, the Republicans are going to crash in a big way the Dems’ party come November if somebody in that town doesn’t intervene soon. And I mean SOON. I am going to post the results of a poll taken after Tuesday’s election. Take a look and I think you will agree with me on what is about to happen. The apocolypse is near and the Democrats are sticking their collective heads in tbe sand.

The Research 2000 Massachusetts Poll was conducted for three organizations — the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Democracy for America, and MoveOn.org — on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 after polls closed in the special election for Senate.

500 Obama voters who did NOT vote in the special election were asked one set of questions. 500 Obama voters who DID vote — and voted for Republican Scott Brown — were asked another set of questions. Each has a margin of error of 4.5%.

2774 Obama voters from 2008 who voted Tuesday were reached — of which 2274 (82%) voted for Democrat Martha Coakley and 500 (18%) voted against her.

(Research 2000 also does polling for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Lexington Herald-Leader, Fort Wayne News Sentinel, South Bend Tribune, and Reno Gazette-Journal, and dozens of other media outlets.)

Sample Figures

OBAMA VOTERS WHO VOTED FOR SCOTT BROWN:

Men: 271 (54%)
Women: 229 (46%)
Democrats: 36 (7%)
Republicans: 41 (8%)
Independents: 423 (85%)

OBAMA VOTERS WHO DID NOT VOTE:

Men: 254 (51%)
Women: 246 (49%)
Democrats: 447 (89%)
Republicans: 19 (4%)
Independents: 34 (7%)

DEMOCRATS LEARNING WRONG LESSON FROM MASSACHUSETTS?

EVEN SCOTT BROWN VOTERS WANT THE PUBLIC OPTION, WANT DEMOCRATS TO BE BOLDER

“In an election between Scott Brown and the public option, the public option would have won.”

– Charles Chamberlain, political director of Democracy for America

HEALTH CARE BILL OPPONENTS THINK IT “DOESN’T GO FAR ENOUGH”

  • by 3 to 2 among Obama voters who voted for Brown
  • by 6 to 1 among Obama voters who stayed home

(18% of Obama supporters who voted supported Brown.)

VOTERS OVERWHELMINGLY SUPPORT THE PUBLIC OPTION

  • 82% of Obama voters who voted for Brown
  • 86% of Obama voters who stayed home

OBAMA VOTERS WANT DEMOCRATS TO BE BOLDER

  • 57% of Brown voters say Obama “not delivering enough” on change he promised
  • 49% to 37% among voters who stayed home

PLUS: Obama voters overwhelming want bold economic populism from Democrats in 2010.

Does reason and common sense just pass right out of these people’s bodies with the rest of the waste products when they get elected? I’m just a simple country boy and I can understand the poll numbers.

If the Donkeys don’t strighten up and fly right very quickly, they should all start cleaning out their offices cause they aren’t going to need them come November. And I’ll bet they still won’t understand why.

That’s it for now. Till next time, be careful, it’s a jungle out there.

Let’s Do Some Fact Checking About Sarah Palin’s Book

Date: 18 Nov 2009 Comments:0

Former Republican Governor of Alaska and  Vice-Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin’s new book, Going Rouge, has just been released and  should be on the Fiction shelf in bookstores. A good portion of what she says in the book is just a continuation of her claims during the 2008 campaign and is no truer now than then.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the excerpts from her book.

She says: she was frugal when traveling on state business as Alaska governor. She chose only “reasonably priced rooms and not very often going for the more expensive “robe and slippers” hotels.

Fact: Although records do indicate she usually opted for less pricey hotels, she and her daughter Bristol stayed five days and four nights at the $700 plus per night Essex House luxury hotel overlooking New York City’s Central Park for a five hour women’s leadership conference in October 2007. The governor billed her state well over $20,000 for her children’s travel and in some cases later amended expense reports to specify they had been on official business.

She says: She rails against taxpayer financed bailouts, which she blames on Obama.

Fact: Palin is blurring the lines between Obama’s bailout plan-a $787 billion package of tax cuts and other incentives-and the federal bailout that Republican presidential candidate McCain voted for and President Bush signed. (Imagine that)

During the vice-presidential debate in October, Palin praised McCain for being instrumental in bringing folks together to pass the $700 billion plus bailout. Later she said it is a time of crisis and government did need to step in.

She says: Ronald Regan faced an even worse recession than the current one and showed us how to get out of one. “If you want real job growth, cut capital gains taxes and slay the death tax once and for all.”

Fact: The estate tax, or as some say death tax, was not repealed under Regan and capital gains taxes are lower now than then.

The recession Regan faced lasted less than a year and a half; this one is now in its 23rd month. And that recession didn’t have a financial meltdown like the current one had.

She says: She writes about a city alderman in Wasilla, Alaska, who owned a garage truck company and tried to push through a law requiring residents of new subdivisions to pay for trash removal instead of taking it to the dump for free. She uses this example to illustrate her standing against conflicts of interest.

Fact: During her tenure as Wasilla mayor, Palin pushed for a special zoning exception which would allow her to sell her family’s $327,000 home then did not keep a promise to remove a fire hazard on the property.

She pushed the council into loosening rules for snow machine races when she and her husband owned a snow machine outlet, and cast a tie-breaking vote to exempt taxes on aircraft when her father-in-law owned one. But to her credit, she recuesd herself in 1997 when the council was considering a grant for the Iron Dog snow machine race her was competing in.

She says: When talking her resistance to federal stimulus money, Sarah depicts Alaskans as independent Americans who don’t want help for government busybodies.

Fact: Alaska is one of the states most dependent on federal subsidies, receiving much more than it gives back. A study for the nonpartisan Tax Foundation found that in 2005, the state received $1.84 for every dollar it sent to Washington.

And on an unrelated note, Ms. Palin uses  7 pages to talk about her apperance on

Saturday Night Live, and her National Security Policy only fills one page.

So this is the future of the Republican Party? Quick, where do I sign?

These are but a few of the statements that will undoubtedly be put under a microscope and scrutinized over and over. I only hope that people who read this book will do so through an objective eye and not view the facts as merely fabrication coming from a liberal media set to pounce once again on the poor public servant.

Who knows, maybe John Ziegler will make another movie about the exalted and misunderstood Ms. Palin.

That’s it for now. Until next time, be careful, it’s a jungle out there.

While Healthcare Battle Rages, Veterans are Dying

Date: 14 Nov 2009 Comments:0

While the Blue Dog Democrats, the Tea Baggers and the rest of the Unknowning and Unthinking Flock debate the merits and demerits of the Health Care Bill, a segment of the populace is forgotten. That segment is the Veteran. While all the various sides of this debate rally, speechify, twist the truth and out and out lie, the American Veteran is paying a heavy price. Reports from several sources report that over 2,200 veterans died last year because they had no health insurance. Take a minute for that to sink in, folks. Over 2,200 of the people who protected our freedom to rally, speechify, twist the truth and out and out lie, died last year because they had no health insurance! I think this is horrific and unacceptable.

In fact, studies show that over 1.5 million veterans have no health coverage. Most don’t qualify because they make too much money to qualify but not enough to pay for their own coverage. If a vet is being treated for wounds sustained in combat or simply while on active duty he or she is covered 100%. But what about those millions who left the service with no wounds? They are not automatically covered by veterans’ benefits. Depending on their income level they could qualify for assistance or even complete coverage from the Veterans Administration, but the overwhelming majority does not fall into this category.

The members of congress have access to a government run healthcare system (you  know that thing that the government shouldn’t do, except for members of congress) but this same group of folks who were elected to keep our best interests at the forefront, are trying to deny even partial coverage to former members of our military. It is not bad enough that the very people who are sacrificing in some cases their lives to protect us and defend our country should have to come home to live in abject poverty, much less be denied health coverage. If any group of people deserved health care coverage, it’s this group.

It’s almost as though we, the American People, treat our former soldiers as disposable humanity. Let’s give them praise and honor while they are fighting and serving us, but forget about them when we no longer need them. After all, there are only about 1.5 million of them. That isn’t a large enough number to care about. Besides, if they had learned a trade or had made better decisions in their lives, they wouldn’t be where they are today.

I for one think it is a crime to let this situation continue for another minute. We waste billions and billions of dollars on our current and past war, we pay millions to provide heath coverage to politicians, we provide millions in subsidies to welfare, both corporate and private and yet our service men and women are dying each year because they are nothing more that disposable goods. Maybe if the service men and women who are denied health care would move to Mexico, denounce their American citizenship and then come back to the state as illegal immigrants, they would have access to health care.

The Democrats are Missing Some Improtant Body Parts

Date: 4 Nov 2009 Comments:0

I grudgingly admit I admire the Republicans, at least the Republican National Committee. Why, you ask? Because when the Republicans have an issue that is dear to their collective hearts and they need all of their party’s votes, the RNC drops a little hint to their wavering members that either they vote the way they are told or the RNC will find a candidate who will do as they are told come election time. Of course since no politician worth his or her salt wants to loose their seat, what do you think they do? If you guessed they vote the way they are told, you’d be right. If the Pachyderms happen to be in power, they have even more clot. If a member goes against the party, that member looses his or her committee chairmanship or seat on a committee. Do you think the Democratic National Committee does what the RNC does? Fat chance!

I am thoroughly convinced the Democrats were born without certain items of procreation that a man is normally born with. I’m not sure about the female members of the party. Maybe that deserves a little more research.

When the majority of Americans want, despite what the Elephants and the Tea Baggers would have you believe, a public option included in any health care bill passed, why are so many Donkeys opposed? Are they afraid of loosing the money they get from the insurance industry? And don’t think for a minute the insurance companies don’t give to the Democrats. The insurance lobbyists give to whoever supports their cause. Are they afraid of loosing their seat in Congress? I have a feeling that is gonna happen anyway, and if the people we elect to represent us don’t represent us, it should happen. We don’t have to wait until 2012 either. It will happen in November of 2010.

If the DNC was really concerned about what the people want, they would get off their fat asses and force the Blue Dogs and whoever else opposes the public option to vote with the party and pass real health care legislation. Without the public option any bill passed would be just so many words and not worth the paper it is written on. Remember during Obama’s campaign when he said they’re just words? Without a public option, premiums will continue to climb until no one except the rich can afford coverage. But in reality, that is exactly what the insurance companies want. The higher the premium, the more money in their pockets. So who are the elected officials going to represent, the people or the insurance companies? Guess who? We the people don’t have the money the insurance industry has and therefore, we don’t matter.

And think about this. Both parties have voiced concern about the government taking over health care. The argument is that the government shouldn’t get involved in health care. What a crock of crap!! Each member of congress has health care coverage run by – guess who? The Government!!! And I don’t hear any of them, Dems or Reps, complaining of the coverage they and their families get. So why are they so unwilling to give us, the voters, the people who are paying for their government run health care, the ones who need a break from rising premiums so much as a taste of what they have?

Lastly, the thing that concerns me most is if the Democrats have control of both houses of congress, why are they so concerned about getting the approval of the Republicans? The Grand Ole Pachyderms sure wouldn’t care if the Dems approved of a bill they were pushing. And the RNC would grab a handful of the members private parts  and squeeze a little to persuade them to vote the Right Way.

So how is it that the DNC doesn’t just tell all of their members to quit waffeling, stop worrying about what the other party thinks, and vote for a good, solid reform bill that has some teeth in it?

I have great idea. Why don’t we all put a couple of balls in a package and mail it to the Democratic Party. They apparently don’t have any themselves.

That’s it for now. Till next time, be careful, it’s a jungle out there.
